May 28th “Not a Logo”

It would seem technology has decided to hate me today.
And I believe my beloved Nikon has finally died.

2010|365: A Design Project
In an effort to keep from getting creatively stagnant as I go through the course of a 9-5 design job, as well as staving off general laziness, I’ve undertaken this personal project.
Every day, rain, shine or somewhere inbetween, I will be making something cool. The results may be photos, design pieces, experimental type, videos, or anything else I feel is worth showing. The only caveat will be that each piece will have to be made that day, even though it might not get posted on the same day.
The end result of the project will be a book (possibly 365 pages long, maybe shorter to reduce costs), which I will make available to anyone who wants to pay for one.

May 27th “Lightbox”

May 27th, 2010 § 0

147|365

I’ve been documenting some work at Metaform for the upcoming launch of our brand-spanking new identity and website. In order to get rid of significant frustration, I decided to fashion a ghetto lightbox to go with my on-camera flash.
Total Cost: $19.83
Total Value: Priceless

On a side note, I’m trying to convince my boss that we should stick a bunch of black circles on the outside, and hang it from the ceiling as a giant die).

May 26th “Pecha Kucha”

May 27th, 2010 § 0

146|365

Checked out the Pecha Kucha Night: Vancouver tonight. Some pretty good speakers, and I even got to see some of my work up on the screen, which was tres cool.
Not down with the ever-present live twitter stream projection though (even if I did contribute to it). Too distracting.

May 25th “Searchin’ (for a decent woman)”

May 25th, 2010 § 0

145|365

A little mini-video for a song by Vetch, one of my favorite bands from back home. Also the subject of a typographic poster project of the same name from back in third year.
Doing this in iMovie has made it painfully clear how much I need to get a copy of AfterEffects.

The ladyfriend with her very fancy new dutchie cruiser.
The backdrop really should be an Amsterdam canal.

May 22nd “The McGill Leaving Face”

May 24th, 2010 § 0

142|365

This is the face of a man on his way back home to New Brunswick.
The city will be significantly less fun without him.

May 21st “The New Ride”

May 24th, 2010 § 0

141|365

After a long, and at times frustrating, search, my new bike is officially on order from the super-awesome Jet Grrl.

The Low-Down
Jet Grrl Frame (Solid Black)
Cyan Velocity Rims
Threaded Headset
Brown Saddle (undetermined of of yet)
A variety of other components that I can’t recall, but which I have been assured will take a fair slice of time to break down.
46/17 (pending test drive)

In short, my new happiness machine. ETA: 4 weeks.

The winning hand (mine), aces beat sixes.
Played maverick style.

May 19th “Flatland”

May 19th, 2010 § 0

139|365

A little poster homage to one of my favorite books, "Flatland" by Edwin Abbott.
To give a little background, the book, published in 1884, is a description of a two-dimensional world inhabited by a variety of geometric figures, including triangles, lines, squares and circles. Class is denoted by each inhabitants number of sides.

The poster features an aztec 2d barcode made of interlocking triangles, and if scanned, directs the viewer to a website where the entirety of the novel (no way beyond the grasp of copyright) is posted.
