As a book distributor, Raincoast is responsible for publicizing and promoting a wide range of titles and gift items from a very diverse group of publishers to an extremely divergent collection of demographics. This requires quite a lot of flexibility and adaptability in design approaches. Nothing is probably more indicative of that than our email newsletters.
Each month, 4 different newsletters are sent out with information on current key titles. Each one gets its own unique banner relating to the titles featured. The fun and interesting design challenge presented is how to take completed cover and interior art from a variety of books and remix it into a clever and original banner. Not to mention a sometimes exhaustive typographic exercise. It's certainly one of the most fun aspects of my job.
