Poster, 16in x 36in

The woodtype poster is an Emily Carr classic. Everyone and their dogs possessing an inkling of typographic desire is itching to do one when they hit fourth year. I jumped the gun a bit and turned an assignment into one.

Asked to create a typeset poster of the lyrics of a song, I chose one by the East Coast folk musicians Vetch. The song had a very western twang, and evoked the feeling of the woodtype genre even before I knew what woodtype was. Partway through the creation of the poster, it really became a labour of love, and I jumped through a number of sizable hoops (including stretching an already taxed G4 processor to its limits) to execute it with a level of craft which would match that of the design.

A beautifully famed copy of the poster can be viewed by appointment in the home of the trombone player/singer’s father, in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. I recommend going during the summer.
